Aliza Leventhal

Director, Fleet Library

Aliza Leventhal is currently director of the Fleet Library at RISD. Prior to joining RISD, she was head of technical services for the Prints & Photographs division of the Library of Congress. Her other work experience includes serving as corporate librarian and archivist for Boston-based interdisciplinary design firm Sasaki and as a database designer for EBSCO Information Services. She has dedicated much of her career to expanding visual and technical literacy for archives professionals working with design and architectural records with a focus on lowering barriers to engaging with born-digital design materials and demonstrating the value of the records the industry produces. Leventhal is co-founder and co-chair of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) Design Records Section’s Digital Design Records Committee. She holds an MLIS and an MA in history from Simmons University’s Archives Management Program and a BA in economics and American studies from Smith College.
