Due to storm, RISD to close today, Feb 22 at 11pm & reopen on Tues, Feb 24 at 7am

The National Weather Service is predicting blizzard conditions across much of New England and beyond from Sunday evening, February 22, through Monday evening, February 23. As a result, RISD will close on Sunday, February 22 at 11:00 pm, is closed through Monday, February 23, and will re-open on Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 am.

Please be advised that the City of Providence has issued a parking ban that will begin on Sunday, February 22, at 3:00 pm. Vehicles parked on city streets will likely be towed. During this campus closure period, students and employees are reminded that RISD parking lots, particularly Woods Gerry, will be closed to allow snow to be cleared. If you have a car parked in RISD lots or city spots, please make alternate arrangements (e.g., a paid parking garage).

Hybrid and Remote Employees
Employees with remote or hybrid work status or capabilities are expected to continue to work their normal hours or may use personal or vacation time. If you are not able to work your regular schedule hours, please be in touch with your supervisor.

Essential Employees
As always, essential services continue despite inclement weather, including those provided by Facilities, Public Safety, Central Dispatch, Dining, and on-call Residence Life staff. If you are unsure if your position is designated as essential, please consult with your supervisor.

Faculty and Students
In-person classes will be canceled, as physical studios and classrooms will be inaccessible during the storm. We encourage faculty to contact their students directly via email with details about syllabi adjustments and other matters, as necessary. Student employees should not report to their scheduled shifts during the closure. Please connect directly with your supervisor to discuss arrangements for making up any missed hours, as needed.

  • Met: Closes tonight at 7:00 pm (take-out boxes available 3 pm - 7 pm)

Monday, February 23

  • Met: Open 10:30 am – 7:00 pm

  • Portfolio: Closed (will reopen as conditions allow)

  • Jolly Roger: Closed

  • Watermark: Closed 

  • Carr Haus: Closed

The Fleet Library will be closed.

The RISD Museum will be closed.

The RISD store and 3D store will be closed.

The Mailroom will be closed.

Health Services and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will also be closed; students will be contacted to reschedule affected appointments. Please contact Public Safety at 401 454-6666 in an emergency.

RISDRides will cancel services on Sunday, February 22, at 5:00 pm. There is no RISDRides service on Monday. Service will resume as normal on Tuesday, February 24 starting at 4 pm.

Please be cautious when walking on campus, especially around snow removal equipment. Weather conditions are expected to make roads and sidewalks slippery.
