Due to storm, RISD closure extended until Wed, Feb 25 at 7am
Feb 23, 2026, 3:55 pm
Due to the volume of blizzard snowfall and to allow for the safe and timely removal of snow, RISD’s winter weather closure will be extended through Wednesday, February 25 at 7:00 am.
Please carefully review the following updates.
The City of Providence parking ban and Rhode Island travel ban are still in effect. During this campus closure period, students and employees are reminded that RISD parking lots, particularly Woods Gerry, will be closed to allow snow to be cleared. If you have a car parked in RISD lots or city spots, please make alternate arrangements (e.g., a paid parking garage).
Hybrid and Remote Employees
Employees with remote or hybrid work status or capabilities are expected to continue to work their normal hours or may use personal or vacation time. If you are not able to work your regular schedule hours, please be in touch with your supervisor.
Essential Employees
As always, essential services continue despite inclement weather, including those provided by Facilities, Public Safety, Central Dispatch, Dining, and on-call Residence Life staff. If you are unsure if your position is designated as essential, please consult with your supervisor.
Faculty and Students
In-person classes will be canceled, as physical studios and classrooms will be inaccessible during the storm. We encourage faculty to contact their students directly via email with details about syllabi adjustments and other matters, as necessary. Student employees should not report to their scheduled shifts during the closure. Please connect directly with your supervisor to discuss arrangements for making up any missed hours, as needed.
