RISD will reopen on a limited basis on Thurs, February 26 and Fri, February 27
Feb 25, 2026, 3:55 pm
We continue to deal with a massive volume of snowfall removal and its logistical consequences. Therefore, RISD will reopen on a limited basis on Thursday, February 26 and Friday, February 27. This means that only essential employees who must be on campus should come in person. Please carefully review the following updates.
At this time, the City of Providence parking ban is still in effect. We ask you to consider what this ban means if you must come to campus, given the very limited parking availability for all our parking lots, with the exception of Woods Gerry, which will be closed to allow snow to be cleared. If you have a car parked in city spots, please make alternate arrangements (e.g., a paid parking garage) while the ban continues, and please save RISD lot spots for those employees who must be on campus, per below.
Hybrid and Remote Employees
Employees with remote or hybrid work status or capabilities are encouraged to work remotely as they are able. If you are not able to work your regular schedule hours, please be in touch with your supervisor.
Essential Employees
As always, essential services continue despite inclement weather, including those provided by Facilities, Public Safety, Central Dispatch, Dining, and on-call Residence Life staff. I know that all of you join me in expressing our deepest gratitude for their work. If you are unsure if your position is designated as essential, please consult with your supervisor.
Faculty and Students
Please hold remote classes whenever possible, given the restrictions outlined above. We expect instructional time to occur in ways that respect your disciplines and departmental abilities, so as to minimize disruptions to the curriculum as much as possible. We encourage faculty to contact their students directly via email with details about syllabi adjustments and other matters, as necessary. Student employees should connect directly with their supervisor to discuss arrangements.
