Fire/Life Safety

Facilities, working in conjunction with the departments of Public Safety (DPS) and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), is responsible for RISD’s Fire/Life Safety program.

RISD electricians maintain all building fire safety equipment, including fire alarm panels, smoke and fire detectors, emergency lighting devices and fire extinguishers.

Fire safety inspections are conducted with RISD’s building insurance carrier on a periodic basis. An outside firm inspects our fire safety equipment quarterly. Fire code consultants provide advice and direction as needed.

DPS officers walk through campus buildings on a daily basis, inspecting for fire safety issues such as blocked egress and propped doors.

EHS ensures that fire drills are conducted in dormitories at least once per semester and provides training in fire and life safety issues.

The Fire and Life Safety committee meets on a monthly basis. We encourage you to contact us with your comments or suggestions at 401 454-6485. If you would like to report any issues via email you may do so at workorders.risd.edu.
