Matthew Muller

Matthew Muller’s work communicates his unique perspective on the physical relationships of the forces around us. Growing up with a condition that made his ligaments overly flexible led him to be keenly aware of forces and motions in order to avoid injury. This awareness combined with his passion for evolutionary sciences and the influence of his architect and scientist parents form an important influence on Muller’s work. As a student at RISD, he developed a nonlinear design process based heavily on material experimentation. His interest is in pushing the limitations of materials and structure in an intuitive manner. He aims to make the user’s understanding and use of his products as intuitive as the process by which he makes them.
