Yuqi Liu is an interdisciplinary artist working across printmaking, papermaking, artist books, and installation. She earned her BFA in Illustration, with a minor in Printmaking, from Parsons School of Design and her MFA in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Her work has been exhibited at Queens Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, and the Monotype Guild of New England, where she received the Takach Press Award. Her works are held in collections including the New York Public Library and the Phillips Library at the Peabody Essex Museum. She has been awarded a fellowship at Vermont Studio Center and an artist residency at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.

Liu’s practice explores the intersections of ecology, material, memory, and cultural history. Through traditional and experimental processes, she approaches paper not merely as a surface but as a living material that holds traces of labor, transformation, and remembrance. Working with plant fibers, fungi, and handmade paper, she investigates cycles of growth, decay, and renewal, exploring the relationships between fragility and resilience, visibility and erasure.

Drawing from Chinese cultural traditions, women’s histories, and the natural world, Liu examines overlooked narratives and interconnected systems of life. Her recent projects engage with Nüshu, a writing system historically practiced by women in China, and the writings of revolutionary feminist Qiu Jin. Her ongoing research into mushrooms and mycelial networks further considers how material processes can preserve memory, reveal hidden connections, and give form to stories across generations.
