Matching Gifts

Many employers match the donations made by their current and retired employees, which increases the impact of your gift to RISD. Please use this tool to find out if your employer has a matching gift program and learn how to initiate your employer’s matching gift.

Multiyear Pledges and Donor-Advised Funds

By spreading payments over a period of time—typically five years or less—multiyear pledges allow donors to make larger commitments and fulfill them at a comfortable pace. Recommending a gift to RISD through your donor-advised fund is another way to give back and diversify your philanthropy.

If you are interested in discussing a major gift or multiyear pledge, or a gift through a donor-advised fund, please contact Joanne Ferchland-Parella, Senior Executive Director of Development, at or call 401 454-6431.

Planned Giving

Planned gifts of all sizes remain integral to RISD’s ability to deliver its world-class education in art and design. From creating student scholarships to endowing professorships, donors’ enduring legacies animate every corner of RISD. Whatever your passion, you can inspire future generations of creative leaders, thinkers and makers with a bequest in your will or trust, or through other planned gifts like retirement account and life insurance policy beneficiary designations. To learn more about planned giving please contact Chad Nelson, Senior Planned Giving Officer, at or call 401 454-6189.

Gifts of Art

The RISD Museum welcomes offers to donate works of art, as well as funds to purchase and care for new works. These gifts help to strengthen and broaden the museum’s collections. Please contact the museum’s Development Office at 401 454-6316 for more information on how you can donate to the museum’s collection through an outright gift, bequest or promised gift.

Gifts in Kind

RISD encourages and appreciates gifts in kind, such as industry equipment, studio supplies, library archive collections and other materials that RISD would otherwise need to purchase. RISD Network

The Alumni Association launched a new alumni-to-alumni and alumni-to-student mentoring platform—the RISD Network—in February of 2020.

Built in response to the 2018 Alumni Survey—in which 43 percent of respondents said they were interested in more professional networking and more than half encouraged RISD to enhance career preparation offerings—the RISD Network is designed to support community members’ creative engagements in their chosen fields.

The RISD Network welcomes alumni to customize their level of involvement and can be adjusted as availability changes. Mentors may communicate with students and other alumni directly through the platform as well as search for other alumni in the new Alumni Directory. Additionally, recent graduates are invited to seek guidance from other alumni for their careers.
