Movement Lab Resources

The Movement Lab is home to a range of equipment that supports hands-on research across a range of creative fields. For students interested in working in the lab, you may join a scheduled orientation or make an appointment by accessing the form linked below.

The Movement Lab offers opportunities to work with equipment such as:

  • Mac, Linux and PC workstations
  • Perception Neuron 3 motion capture kit
  • Azure Kinect developer kits
  • Einscan H 3D scanner
  • Xytronic soldering station with fume extractor
  • Makergear M2 3D printers

To access the Movement Lab with your RISD ID card, you must be one of the following:

  • an FAV major
  • a non-major enrolled in an FAV course that meets in the lab

Classes take place during Wintersession, Monday–Friday from 1–6 pm. Open lab hours are posted on the door each semester.

Non-FAV majors may join any scheduled orientations. To access the lab and its equipment, non-majors must request an appointment.

To work with the motion capture equipment in the lab, you may schedule an appointment (one- or two-hour slots) after attending an orientation or in-class demo. Please provide one week’s notice for scheduling.
