Reimagining mobility through nature’s systems

In a time when ecological and mobility systems are deeply interconnected, RISD and Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) are exploring new ways to design for a regenerative future.

Through the RISD x HMG partnership—anchored at RISD by Academic and Creative Partnerships and the Edna W. Lawrence Nature Lab—artists, designers, scientists, and engineers collaborate to envision sustainable forms of mobility rooted in the intelligence of the natural world.

About the partnership

RISD x HMG is a multiyear partnership that brings together HMG expertise in the area of advanced mobility and RISD’s approach to problem solving, founded on the practice of research through making.

With the Edna W. Lawrence Nature Lab serving as a hub, RISD x HMG continues to expand its focus, investigating big-picture questions around ecological design and regenerative systems.

Our mission and impact
Initiatives and outcomes

By amplifying advanced design systems that restore human relationships with other living systems, RISD and HMG are co-creating actionable outcomes via ecologically-minded design and nature-based ways of knowing, while also carving paths for future designers and researchers to build on this legacy.
