Workspaces and Tools

Furniture Design students have access to a range of state-of-the-art design and production resources, including:

  • an extensive wood studio with hand and power tools
  • a metal shop with welding and fabrication equipment
  • a metals machine shop
  • an upholstery lab
  • a plastics/alternative materials lab
  • a finishing spray booth
  • a veneer and rare woods collection
  • a laser cutter, Rapid Prototype Machine (RPM) and CNC router, through the Shared Technologies Initiative
  • computer lab workstations running SolidWorks, Rhino, Adobe Suite and a range of other design software

Entering sophomores are required to buy a laptop as specified by the department.
